BOIV Media Statement Covid-19

Today the State Government, Victoria announced a testing blitz in hot spot suburbs due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

A  targeted testing approach will occur across the following suburbs; Keilor Downs, Maidstone, Albanvale, Sunshine West, Hallam, Broadmeadows, Brunswick West, Fawkner, Reservoir and Pakenham.

The Board of Imams Victoria (BOIV) encourages every citizen to get tested in test locations, all residents of these suburbs will be eligible for free testing, with or without symptoms, with a priority on testing symptomatic cases.

The Board of Imams Victoria (BOIV) urges community members to take this pandemic seriously and to abide with all precautionary measures and restrictions advised by the Victorian Government and Health authorities.

We, therefore, call upon places of worship in particular Mosques and community centres in hot spot suburbs to close immediately and for Friday prayers to not go ahead until it is safer to do so, this is for the benefit and safety of every Victorian.

The Board of Imams is Victoria’s peak Islamic religious body, representing over 45 member Imams across Victoria. We seek to serve the Muslim community by providing effective leadership and guidance on matters of Islamic faith and way of life.
